Aashayein- A ray of hope

Hope is the ability to hear the music of the future. Faith is having the courage to dance to it today. And at Aashayein we dance to the music of the smiles on the faces of people we serve.

Aashayein has set out to spread this music around among people who are in need of it. We started in March 2007, without a name for the organisation, but only a purpose - 'to make a difference'. And in a week, Aashayein will be a registered NGO. We have grown in strength too - starting off with 20 people and now we have 50 enthusiastic members.

Till date we have been serving breakfast on sunday mornings at ashrams, orphanages, oldage homes and Home for Blind, Mentally retarded children and women. We used to share the breakfast expenses between us. Now we have atleast 50 people contributing for the cause. So we decided to make it big. Register our organisation as an NGO and give a name to it.

Today, we still serve breakfast at these centers. And our short term goal is to identify 3 schools to be provided with note books and taliors to get uniforms stitched as they have lack of funds to get it done themselves.

This is a simple request from me. We plan to carry out this activity before the beginning of next term(June, 2007). Please contribute for the cause. Any querries keep me posted(ON THE BLOG). Any comments, please dont hesitate to pen them down(ON THE BLOG). You could help by contributing cash, by making your own donations-example, donate 100 books at the cost of 8 rupees per book , cash etc.

The official website for Aashayein is on its way and will be launched as soon as it is registered.
Many of you might be already be donating funds to a trust, but collectively, we'll have a greater impact.

We are a young group, just out of college set out to make a difference. And if you had thought of giving back something to the society, you can be 'ONE OF AASHAYEIN'.

just to correct ruthvika we actually started on first sunday of this year.. 6th january 2007 to be precise.
a new begining for the new year.
i still remember our first visit at Karnataka Blind School in Sheshadripuram.
there were around 50 students. few students were partially blind( whos sight could be restored with a simple operation). there were students from age group 5 to 15.
one particular incident i can never forget. when we were serving breakfast there were 3 kids(i think they must be around 8 years old) who were sitting behind the door. the door was fully opened and i could not see them. when i was passing from there i heard a voice saying "Chutney Baeku" but at that time i had saghu with me so i served that. they just eat whatever is served. they never realised that i had served saghu. later when i served the chutney they just ate it.
every visit to the ashrams was a special experience. we have visited around 15 different ashrams so far. i enjoy these vists to ashrams every week. we always keep cribbing that we dont have enough facilities(esp money) but we should be happy that we have a healthy mind and body...
i am sure each of my friends who have been visiting the ashrams every week with me would agree with me that this breakfast serving has added so much of value to our life..
i request every one to join us on sundays to serve the breakfast. i am sure u will enjoy it..

now we want to do something bigger than this.. we want to provide primary education the government school students. we plan to teach english to students of class 5th to 7th with one school from this academic year begining in june.
as ruthvika said we will be soon coming up with our website. once its ready you can get the complete details of our work.
for time being if u have any quiries or if u want to be part of Aashayein you can get in touch with us. my email id is sunildevda@gmail.com..
